English in Action is about learning actively, sometimes in teams, sometimes with a classmate and sometimes as an individual. Aided by the most innovative written publications, audio-visual materials and English language IT programmes, students carry out tasks which will improve their abilities in the four key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. These graded tasks deal with universal topics such as the environment, entertainment, healthy living or sport and can include taking part in a discussion, planning and presenting a publicity campaign, researching and then describing an important local or international issue or carrying out a survey. There are also games and competitions too at our English summer camps! Students act out everyday situations such as going shopping or even dramatic self-produced sketches, which are recorded and stored for future enjoyment.
Another important element of Camp Beaumont’s English language holidays is the element of study skills provided. Students are encouraged to think about how they organise their studies so they can learn more quickly and efficiently. Our summer English course teaches them how to note down, categorise and store new information, making it easier to remember and review. They learn how to structure talks or written pieces coherently and how to look for patterns in word and sentence structures. This will prove invaluable for their studies in the future. By the end of their stay at Camp Beaumont, students will have improved their English language at every level, grown in confidence and be more prepared for future study.
Our teachers have a vital role to play in ensuring that students always have a positive learning experience in the classroom. They facilitate learning by creating interest in topics, feeding in key language structures and vocabulary, presenting clear spoken and written models of language, offering concise explanations. They monitor students’ learning, correcting when appropriate, offering encouragement and praise.
Learning a language is all about communication and Camp Beaumont’s English language holidays create the perfect atmosphere for friendships to blossom between youngsters from all over the world. A great opportunity to meet and mix with many native English speakers, students share an exchange of ideas and culture, while enjoying an action-packed and superb summer camp holiday full of adventure and sports activities.
Information technology is an integral part of Camp Beaumont’s summer English language course and students will spend at least one class a day in our computer labs, taking advantage of the most up-to-date CD-ROM programmes, which include learning with music, film, internet research and language-based games. The computer sessions often spark the interest of those students who may be less active in other classes.
If students are to make the most of their English in Action course, it is important that they are placed into a class that matches their English language level and with children of a similar age. English classes are split into two age groups 10-13 and 13-17 and three levels of language ability, Early Grade, Performer Grade, Fluent Grade. Summer camp English students are tested on arrival in order to place them into their corresponding level.
From rolling green hills to some of the oldest sights in London, famous writers, film stars and sports heroes – there are many things that are typically British and right from the moment our summer camp English students arrive, they are directly immersed into the heritage, customs and way of life that surrounds these icons. If you are also holidaying in the UK at the same time as your children, you are most welcome to take your son or daughter to our English summer camp. Otherwise, most parents take advantage of our escorted travel service. Our camps are all easily reached from main UK airports and we also cover the Eurostar Service so there are lots of different options to choose from. All of these are manned by our English summer camp staff team who will be waiting for your child directly when they come out of the customs hall into the arrivals area. They are easy to spot wearing bright Camp Beaumont uniforms and a welcoming smile. Your child will then join other campers on our coaches back to camp. This gives children a great head start on their English language holidays and the opportunity to practice their English skills as soon as they land & to begin to make friends even before reaching camp. Children are never left unattended at airports, railway stations or public places.
